Acts of Lateral Kindness

WOKE: We organize knowledge empowerment

Knowledge is provided through a critical race and trauma informed approach inclusive of equity based practices to support community members in accessing resources. Serves males, families, and Muslim persons who experience inequitable social conditions and seek to improve their lives through solution focused approaches to problem solving. Empowering joy by reducing stress and conflict in the home by supporting health, well-being and social inclusion.

Specific areas of responsiveness and workshops:

  • Self-care and support services for Muslim males

  • Skill development in areas of self-regulation

  • Improving workplace conditions to promote rest, leisure and relaxation and reducing time poverty 

    •  Reducing the impact of patronization in the workforce to make workplaces more family friendly and women centric to improve employment outcomes for racialized persons 

    • Promoting equitable labour division at work to reduce burnout and improve presenteeism for racialized women 

    • Providing time off to promote joyful quality time with family ​​

    • Advocacy for safer workplace practices that support employee well-being 

  • Racism and Islamophobia 

  • Reproductive health and rights

  • Systems of oppression and challenging harm/damage based narratives utilizing strengths based approaches

    • The impact of second and third hand smoke in low income and high pollution settings

  • Triple shifts of domestic labour, at work, at home, and the chronic stress of survival cleaning that impacts well-being.
